There has been a lot of logging out along the
trail system in the Arapaho National Forest, just west of Grand Lake, Colorado.
How will this affect you? For starters, it all looks a lot different.
There are so many clear-cut or heavily thinned areas you may need to re-learn
the trail system. Also, there are a lot of new open areas that will beckon
to be tracked up. Be
careful.
The stumps are low, but there are LOTS of stumps out there. THOUSANDS of
STUMPS, so be careful. Think belly pan, trailing arm, ski, and other parts
of your snowmobile that you'd rather not have to replace. If
you
are renting, think of the full retail price of those items that would be tacked
onto the bill for your day of fun. And nobody wants to go home injured.
And think twice before playing on those little "hills" - that hill might be a
log pile and you could find yourself playing pick-up-sticks with your body and
your sled. Please be careful.
In addition to the junctions pictured above, there has been logging at other locations along the Kawuneeche Road, the Stillwater Pass Road, the Bull Mountain Trail, the Spruce-em-Up- Jack Trail, and other areas. It will be like having a new trail system, but familiar all the same.
