The
first ever "Yahoo!" ride was a success. Debbie Mason & Ron Bowen drove the
gear over for the group and everyone else rode over Illinois Pass to meet up at
the Drifter's Cookhouse for lunch. Debbie was late because of (yet
another) flat tire on the snowmobile trailer. By 3pm everyone but Ron had
arrived at the cabin and was hauling in the gear. We rode over to the
cookhouse for dinner & drinks, then came back to the cabin. Sam & Judy had
brought dominoes and there was a kitchen table game going on when Ron arrived.
Saturday,
the gang rode out and, partway along, Sam, Judy & Debbie broke off to return to
the cabin while the rest of the gang searched out the powder meadows and other
trails. They returned for lunch, then took off again in search of powder
while Sam & Judy headed home and Debbie cooked a pot of beef stew. A few
folks headed back to the cookhouse to gas up for the next day's ride. And
there was Tim Vogler. Tim had ridden to Gould with some Grand Lake
friends, and decided to stay the night and ride back with the
Yahoo group.
Sunday,
Ron & Debbie hauled the gear home (and Debbie had another flat - Ron loaned her
his spare) and the rest rode over toward American Lakes, then home. We had
a great time. The cabin had plenty of heat and plenty of room for all of
us. Randy Miller of the Walden Snow Snakes came out to talk with us about
the area, their plans for expanding their trail system and possibly doing some
joint rides - we'd go up there and they'd show us their trail system and they'd
come down to Grand Lake and we'd show them our trail system (and fun off-trail
areas).
